Is Life Really Supposed To Be Simple?

Eagle and young

The other day I watched a movie called “Mom’s Night Out”, and one part really caught my attention. It was the part where the mother was hiding inside her closet, watching the mother eagle take care of her baby over the internet. The eagle looked so peaceful and confident in what she was doing, no worrying about this or stressing about that.

Most parents feel inadequate, and when you add in the hectic speed of life, pushed by society, then you are destined to come to a breakdown in your closet at the end of the day. I know my week was hectic and all I could think of was laying in the fetal position in my closet, pushing out the thoughts all of the things I needed to get done and pay that day.

Can we humans, learn to take advice from, or mimic nature when it comes to parenting? If you observe nature in its raw form, you will notice that the parents are constantly busy, only when they live among humans are animals less active.

Animals are constantly searching for something to eat, keeping an eye out for danger, cleaning their young, and doing all the other things they need to do to ensure their survival. I have to say that many human parents are doing this same thing, only in a different manner. It takes more training to teach a human child to live a life of success and happiness, especially since our lives are given more options than animals.

Keep your life simple

Keep your life simple

Although I could also say this is our downfall, we think too much, judge too much, stress too much, which causes us to drink too much, get angry too much, and look for alternative ways of escaping our reality. We are too stressed to even be present in our lives, so we look for other ways of coping.

One recurring theme in my life lately is simplicity. I’m so sick of things being too complicated, or too hard, nature is simple, life is simple, but only when we allow them to be.

I challenge you to take one day and live simply, don’t do anything you don’t really want to do, if you don’t want to feed the kids a big supper, fix them sandwiches or something that is simple. Just take a day and live the simple life, and then see how hard your parenting skills were that day. Did this day feel more natural to you?

Maybe when we stop seeing life as “hectic” then we will see that life just is, and life will flow how it wants, but the flow never stays the same, it is always changing.

About Mimic Nature

Hello everyone! I’m so glad to see you! I’m Jana, I’m an eccentric wife and mother; I work 2 jobs and homeschool my kids. With all this going on in my life, I want to focus my attention on the things that make me happy, and the one thing that has made me happy ever since I was a little kid is nature. As my life progressed and changed through my teen years and my early married life, I lost my connection to it. Life took over and here I am living disconnected from nature because of work, bills, and every day events that keep me away. So the next chapter of my life will be dedicated, at least in some small part, to reconnecting to nature; I still have a mortgage, work, and a family to take care of, but now, I will be more aware of nature and my place within it. Each day, I will find some small way to not harm nature. Not long ago I was introduced to something called permaculture and I fell in love with it. Basically, it’s building a small ecosystem in your own backyard that is based off of what nature would do naturally. In turn your backyard helps you, and you help your backyard…with minimal work!! At first it may take more work, but over time, your backyard will become self-sustaining and you won’t have to work as hard…other than harvesting. I love the life lessons that I learn from nature, so what I promise to do is share a lesson that I’ve learned from nature each week, share what I’m learning about permaculture, and share my own personal progress in changing my homestead into a permaculture Garden of Eden. And since it’s hard to make any changes in life, I want to have some free giveaways once in awhile…all nature themed of course, to help all of us remember our ‘green’ family. Read a few articles, see if you like what is there, if you do, go ahead and subscribe. If you don’t like what you see, that’s ok, I’m honored that you took the time to get to know me a little and see my vision for my blog and my life.

A dinner that is my daughter’s favorite is soup…from a can. We put it in a pot on the stove and add some herbs or cheese and cook it together. It’s so very simple, but we get to do it together. The time spent together stirring and adding things and tasting and laughing makes it taste so much better in the end. Thanks for the reminder today that simple things can be so rewarding. I needed to hear it.

To be argumentative and to challenge my own concepts of natures’ simplicity, I will say *quivering voice* that nature isn’t more simple than our own lives. In fact, I would say that because we are from and part of nature, that our human society is an accurate natural reflection of the natural world. I think that because we don’t understand and can’t comprehend the full intricacies and the challenges of the natural world outside of our own, we look towards nature as being idyllic and more free than our own existence. As I’ve been learning, I don’t think that the thoughts of escapism I’ve been harboring towards going “really green” will be met with a sigh of relief. Instead, I think I will find challenges and issues each way I turn. Ugh. Maybe that is just me though. -Jasmine.

you can challenge my posts anytime Jasmine, I don’t mind 🙂 And you are right, maybe our world isn’t as hard and nature isn’t as simple as I think it is? I guess I see nature as simple because they don’t have to sit and fight with their own minds, they just do what is natural. I am constantly questioning myself and my life doesn’t flow naturally because of myself.
