Sabbath Saturday

Sabbath Saturday reminds me that the path to real rest is often a narrow one. Thoreau writes that the gateway to freedom is too small for a life weighed down with clutter, and Jesus says that the gate leading to life is narrow as well. Both point to the same truth: we cannot enter rest while dragging everything behind us. Sabbath is the invitation to lay down what we’ve been carrying — the possessions, the worries, the noise — and walk lightly for a day. Even nature knows how to do this. Trees shed what they no longer need, animals travel with only what they can bear, and the seasons themselves release and renew. Today I’m choosing that same simplicity, stepping through the narrow gate with only what my soul can carry.
