Getting Ready for Spring

In the Planning Stage

In the Planning Stage

Even though winter is a time that most people can sit back and take a break from outside work, many gardeners and farmers are in the planning stage for this up-coming spring’s planting season.

There are a few steps that I know I have to take before I can get started this spring.

  1. Remove any expectations. In my experience, having expectations on how things should go is a dangerous game, it can cause depression and anxiety when things don’t go as you want them to, so I don’t want to have any expectations.
  2. Research. Researching what I want to do and how other people have done it helps me to build a list of ideas on how I want to carry out the changes I will be undertaking.
  3. Set certain goals. It’s always nice for us to set goals, but keep in mind that they need to be attainable goals. For example, I know we need a new roof this next year so I may not have as much money to spend when it comes to all the changes I would like to make. Bearing that in mind, I need to make sure my goals are attainable with the funds that I expect to have. You don’t have to get too technical here, no one’s expecting you to sit up all night with a calculator budgeting out your money, just knowing that you can’t make any huge changes will keep your mind focused on all the small, more inexpensive changes you can make.
  4. Make a list. I have to point out that you shouldn’t make this list a list of expectations on how you want things to turn out, this should be a list of what I want to get done or a reminder of the steps I want to take to get to my goal. Many people have lists when it comes to their home repairs or finances, lists can help us organize and keep all the information we need in one place that is easy to find.
  5. Get started. Once you have set your goals and made your lists all you have to do is start. Once I get everything planned the first thing I have to do is order my seeds and plants for the spring growing season. I have never grown any of my plants from seeds, maybe this is the year to try it?

This list I gave can be used for anything you want to do, it’s good to have a clear picture in your head of what you want to do no matter what it is.

If for some reason you don’t like what you planned, or it’s just not working out, change it, it’s that simple. Nature is so flexible and forgiving, it allows you to make mistakes and it will keep coming back, so don’t worry.

Over the next few months I will be sharing my own ideas and drawings of what I want to achieve this up-coming year.

Connections We Make and Why They are So Valuable

Heart of others

Heart of others

Have you ever noticed that there are people who seem to just capture your heart, even when you don’t know them personally? Why is this? Why do you feel a connection with them when you have never met them?

I have heard some people say that you feel this connection because you see a part of yourself within them and that draws you to them. But maybe it’s because you see a part of who you want to be in them and that draws you to them as well?

Either way you view it there are unexplainable reasons why we feel drawn to certain situations and to certain people, or can they be explained?

What I feel is that despite the above reasons, even though they are valid and I believe they are true, I feel this connection is meant to teach us something valuable about ourselves and about the world around us. It may be a way to strengthen us and keep us focused on what we want to become or strengthen these qualities we already possess.

Each connection we make is valuable in many ways, when we are open to these experiences and not bitter when they don’t turn out the way we want, we can learn so much more than when we are close-minded about the whole experience.

Another Confession of Mine

confessionI have another confession to reveal to you, if you’ve been reading any of my posts you may already know what it is.

I was challenged today to really find my ‘voice‘ as a writer and I was given 3 things to do to help me achieve this directive. 1. List possibilities of what is wrong with the world. 2. What experience do I have that’s unique to me? 3. What is easy for me to do but may be harder for others, this is a way to give of your experience and knowledge to those who may be struggling in this area (this list was sent to me by a writer named Jeff Goins who helps people find their own unique voice to write with).

As I sat and thought about the first question I couldn’t help but think about what was wrong in my life that turned my world upside down, and my answer is my inner self. I didn’t know who I was or what God wanted of me, religion caused  so much confusion in my life I didn’t know where to turn.

My confession is that I love nature but my passion is spirituality and finding who you are inside. Please note that my passion is not religion but more the soft whisper of a Creator that loves us all and tries to remind us who we are and the power we possess. When we hear the superheroes say “with great power comes great responsibility” what you don’t realize is that this is really talking about YOU and not just a certain group of people.

This kind of power is not about yourself and what you can do only for yourself or your family, even though time for yourself and your family are important, it is a power of knowing that you can better the world in so many beautiful ways despite what that little voice inside your head tells you or what other people may say or think about you.

What we can do as humans is beyond our comprehension and yet we sit and give our lives and our power over to others and to selfish desires that help no one, not even ourselves.

My deepest desire is for people to see themselves the way the Creator sees them, and if you don’t believe in a Creator that is fine, the Universe still believes in you and your potential to change the world for the better. So along with my normal nature posts I will begin a spiritual category that dives deep into understanding ourselves and our place within the world around us.

I don’t speak about these things as a person who knows everything, I only know my experience and what I felt and understood through each step of this process, a process that is still going and will never end. I also can’t deny my inner yearning anymore, I’m tired of seeing so many people struggle because they don’t understand themselves or their surroundings, just as I am tired of struggling myself.

I also want to point out that this is not a way to convert people to any religion or any school of thought, it’s a way for you to see your own worth and understand the struggles you may be going through.

A Few Thoughts For The Holiday Season

The Holiday Season

The Holiday Season

With the holidays coming up I wanted to use this post to focus on some problems many people face during this time.

First of all, many people suffer during this time of year, some have lost family, some have addictions that make this time of year a mental struggle, and some may have to deal with persecution since they don’t celebrate the same holiday as everyone else. We need to be compassionate towards others so we don’t make this time of year hard on others.

Loneliness is a huge problem in the world, the health risks from loneliness are comparable to the risk factors caused by smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and the risks are worse than obesity and physical inactivity. Contrary to popular belief, not only the elderly suffer from this, loneliness can hit anyone at any age.

There are many people out there who struggle with food or alcohol addictions and this time of year can be really stressful on them as they are inundated with large amounts of food and drink. Also, there are many people who feel offended that you don’t eat or drink with them which compounds the stress even more. If you don’t have an addiction then I am truly happy for you but keep in mind that one slip-up can ruin a month of hard work to those of us who do have addictions.

There are also some people who don’t celebrate Christmas and yet are expected to be involved in Christmas parties at work, school events, programs, and are also expected to reciprocate merry Christmas when someone says it to them.

I’m not asking anyone to deny their personal convictions to celebrate the way they want or say what they want, I am asking that we all be more aware of other people’s differences and their sufferings during this time of year.

Remembering Extinct Species

I wanted to remember some of the extinct species that no longer exist, not to bring up blame for why they are extinct, but to remember their divine expression upon our planet.
“To wantonly destroy a living species is to silence forever a divine voice. Our primary need for the various life forms of the planet is a psychic, rather than a physical, need.’ How important it is to remember those lost voices!”~Thomas Berry

dodo bird1. The Dodo Bird. The dodo is an extinct flightless bird that lived on the island of Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean. The dodo is a relative of pigeons and doves, it’s weight averaged from 22 to 40 pounds, and stood 3.3 feet tall.

2. Passenger Pigeons. Once the most common birds in North America, the passenger passenger pigeonpigeon or wild pigeon became extinct in 1914, when the last known pigeon died at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Since there are so many, I will make a series out of remembering those that are gone.

What is conversion?

True conversion

True conversion

What does convert mean? Is the way religion uses it the right way to view conversion? Lets take a look at nature to find the answer.

Convert: Cause to Change In Form, Character, or Function

Nature changes all the time, leaves fall and convert to food when they are absorbed into the ground, caterpillars convert to butterflies not only in physical appearance but also in function as they can now pollinate flowers, people convert their waste into a fertilizer, and on and on.

Lets look at conversion in its simple form, causing something or someone to change. Any conversion you make will begin inside your inner being and vibrate out into the physical realm, those who change only on the inside are not fully converted as they have not let what they learned change them.

Anyone can convert to whatever they desire to be, they don’t need anyone else around to witness these changes since what we say and do are already witnessed by everything around us. My negative energy can and does affect animals and plants around me, so the planet and the Universe witnesses our lives, they sense our energy and feel our movements.

Whatever you decide to change in your life or on your land is between you and Nature, not anyone else. All you have to do is focus on what you want to change, figure out the steps needed to change, and then do it.

Energy and Where It Goes

Stop putting your focus on things you don't want, focus on what you do want.

Stop putting your focus on things you don’t want, focus on what you do want.

No matter what you are doing with your land to make necessary changes for the betterment of nature, you must first focus your attention on what you want. You envision what you want to change, how it will look, and what you will have to do to bring this change into physical form.

What you should not do is focus your attention on what you don’t want, or what is already there that you don’t like, for example there may be weeds there you don’t like, or more personally, you may not like the way you look.

I have come to the realization that many are deceived by focusing their attention on things they shouldn’t. There is a huge difference between blindly believing things are not there, and choosing not to focus your attention on them.

There are ancient writings that tell us that putting our focus on certain things gives them energy, so whenever you go to do anything, be aware of where your attention lies.

I have been making huge life changes recently because I have decided to turn away from things I don’t want to put my attention on. I don’t need to study these areas or even talk about them as it only makes them grow in my life, so I just focus my attention on the positivity of what I want.

This is where true change and growth will happen, since you are focused on the positive you will find more energy, more control, more power to make the changes you want possible. When we focus on the negative, or the negative attributes within us, we give them more power and it makes it harder on us to overcome these areas in our lives since our attention makes them grow.

I am taking back control of my life, as of now, I turn my back on anything negative within me, an ego, or adversary, or any other name that people want to give it and I choose to focus on life and beauty.

Find your strength in beauty and life.

Find your strength in life and beauty.

“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.” -Bashar

“See, I have set before you this day, life and beauty and death and adversity. Choose life”~ God

“Turn away from adversity and achieve beauty, seek wholeness and chase after it.” ~Psalm 34:14

What Do You Hear?

Listen to the Trees

What do the Trees say to you?

As I sit here and watch the birds fly around outside, I wonder what do they hear? What guides them through their day? Is it the simple noises we hear, or is there more?

I’m going to get right to the point because there are some poems I want to add. What do we hear? Can we hear more if we focus on hearing more? Can the planet speak to us and can we hear it? I think we can hear the planet, it’s as simple as having the ears to hear.

I think many of us are so busy and preoccupied with daily living that we have forgotten how to listen to the sweet, soft whisper of nature. We can train ourselves to hear nature again, but we must direct our focus and attention on it.

I wanted to add these poems that I read for the first time today, I want to share the beauty in the soul who wrote them. These are poems from Hermann Hesse’s Bäume: Betrachtungen und Gedichte [Trees: Reflections and Poems]

“Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth. They do not preach learning and precepts, they preach, undeterred by particulars, the ancient law of life.”

“A tree says: A kernel is hidden in me, a spark, a thought, I am life from eternal life. The attempt and the risk that the eternal mother took with me is unique, unique the form and veins of my skin, unique the smallest play of leaves in my branches and the smallest scar on my bark. I was made to form and reveal the eternal in my smallest special detail.”

“When we are stricken and cannot bear our lives any longer, then a tree has something to say to us: Be still! Be still! Look at me! Life is not easy, life is not difficult. Those are childish thoughts. . . . Home is neither here nor there. Home is within you, or home is nowhere at all.”

History, Truth Or Fiction?

Depiction of King Arthur

Depiction of King Arthur

I was watching the History Channel about King Arthur, even though we know these stories as myths, was the attributes and certain events in his life based off of a real person?

We use descriptive writing to make elaborate stories that portray magic, super-human deeds, stunning love stories, and epic adventures, if we can do all of this who is to say that past generations didn’t do the same? What if Hercules was, in reality, a man who was really strong? People heard about this strong man, added to it, and created a man who was born from gods? According to the Smithsonian Channel, this is common in history, people took a great leader and over time, through embellishing stories, turned him into something divine.

If this is true, does it make you wonder how much of history was made up? What will future generations think about us when they examine our writings, our paintings, and our artifacts? Would they think we worship our animals because of how we treat them? Would they think we were a race of super-humans because of the stories we weave?

Nature holds no past and no future, it only lives now, it moves and flows, ever-changing in the present moment. It is not held back by the past, it does not blame and point the finger at those who have hurt it. Maybe we should learn from nature, yes, we can learn from the past, but what good does it do us to hold on to the past when there is the possibility that it could be wrong?

What’s In a Name?

What's in a name?

What’s in a name?

I was watching a movie the other day that was about demon possession, and one thing I found interesting was the fact that to expel the demon you needed to know its name. It got me to thinking, what is in a name?

In the Bible, Adam had to name the animals, why did he have to do this? Some say that names help us differentiate between things so we can communicate, but what if there is more to this?

Lets use the sentence from the Bible and see what it really says. In Hebrew the word for name is שם (shem), but if you know anything about Hebrew you know they didn’t use vowels, just vowel markers. The letters shin (pronounced sheen) and mem could also be the word sham which is translated place.

I find that interesting, maybe when we use somethings name we put it in its natural place? Hence you would need to know a spirit or demons name to send it back to where it came from, or you would need to know the true name of your addiction to rid yourself of it.

Very interesting to think about.
