Getting To The Core Of The Issue

core  Here in Ohio our ash trees are dying, apparently a bug is wiping them all out. It’s illegal to transport any type of ash across state lines, apparently no one has told the bugs this and the ash are dying in Michigan and Indiana as well.

I have heard many theories as to why the trees are dying, but what is the core of the problem? Are the bugs natural predators being killed off? Are the trees more sensitive to the chemicals being sprayed on the fields?

This makes me think about ourselves, are we really getting to the core of our issues or are we focused on side effects? I have been overweight my whole life, and I can lose weight for various reasons but will I be completely successful if I don’t uproot the core issue of why I overeat? Will the damage to the planet ever be undone if we don’t find the core of what is causing it in the first place? I don’t like blaming humans, blaming is counter-productive and shouldn’t be done, what we need to do is focus on the cure, how to undo what was done.

I believe that to undo what was done, to the planet and myself, I need to move to a more natural state of being.

Your unique path to food

food for thought

food for thought

One thing I find is that the world of food is vast and confusing, what do I eat, what don’t I eat, how much, what portion, vegan, vegetarian, organic, not organic? I’m sure many of you, like myself, have been inundated with information about what you should and shouldn’t eat, and I’m sure many of you, like me, feel guilty for the way you eat at times. One thing I have found that is detrimental to your success of eating in a balanced way, is to follow what you feel is right for you.

No one can determine your path for you and if you allow others to influence your decisions without your heart being in it, you will set yourself up for failure. I juiced for 90 days, I lost almost 100 pounds, but I began to feel depressed afterward because I was getting tired of ‘fighting’ the temptations that I faced every minute of every day because I felt I couldn’t eat this or shouldn’t eat that. Consequently I put most of the weight back on. I also knew that what I was doing was not what I felt I had to do because when it comes down to it I feel people can eat what they want in the proper proportions and remain the weight they want, or even to lose weight.

Another huge problem I’ve witnessed is stress, so many people worry and obsess about what they eat, this stress is counter-productive to their goals. I totally understand this and struggle with it as well, especially when insurance companies are giving you the ultimatum to lose weight or pay more for your insurance.

My tips are 1. Find your food path. Don’t let anyone influence you to follow a path you don’t want, it’s okay to take advice but in the end it won’t last unless you do what you feel is right for you. 2. Listen to your inner self. It’s vitally important that you listen to what your body is saying to you. If you are suffering in any way because of what you ate, you should probably look into cutting back on that specific food. 3. Make small changes. Don’t feel like you have to make big changes in a short amount of time, any change for the better is good and should be viewed in a positive manner. 4. Don’t stress. Stressing about what you are eating is counter-productive and should be avoided at all costs.

Inside My Own Black Hole

black hole

black hole

There are parts of myself I need to change and I cannot rely on others to change for me. There was a hole deep inside of me that no one could fill but myself, and only when I filled it with the right thing did my life start to take form. Stop looking around out there for respect, love, and happiness when it must start from within, only then will you truly find peace and contentment.

Diversity

diversity of nature

diversity of nature

When you plant do you plant only those things that benefit you, or do you plant others as well?

As I start planting in the spring, I want to plant many things. I don’t want to just focus on plants that will give me food, I want to add in plants, trees, and shrubs that are beautiful and have other functions as well. The functions of nature are easier to see with some varieties than others but regardless of this, all of nature has a purpose.

If I look at nature there is such a wonderful array of trees and plants, none of them have the same functions, they all look different in their own way, and yet they all have purpose, they all give nature its beauty. Only those who are not looking see trees the same, who see flowers the same, etc. But to people who are aware of it and really look at nature, they see that on those beautiful snowy days, each snowflake is distinct, none are the same.

How boring would nature be if everything was the same? Our needs would not be met with one type of tree or one type of plant, we would shrivel and die because our lives need and thrive off of diversity.

And yet we have the audacity to degrade the diversity of human beings, to act as if the differences in each other makes us more or less than another. It’s sad that people don’t want to see the beauty in diversity, many just want to stick with their own kind instead of flourishing among the different expressions of people.

Either way, I’m looking forward to researching the kinds of plants and trees I can add-on my property to make my little ecosystem strong.

Hate vs Compassion

the world is not black and white, it has many beautiful colors, so which color is the right one? Which color is the best one? Which color is the original one? Who cares...they are all beautiful.

the world is not black and white, it has many beautiful colors, which color is the right one? Which color is the best one? Which color is the original one? Who cares…they are all beautiful.

I find myself having a hard time writing lately, at first I wasn’t sure what it was but now I think I know why.

I am the type of person that when things get tough, I quiet down or shut down completely to what is going on around me so that way I protect myself. I’m not saying this is the best thing to do but it’s something I have taught myself over the years, plus it keeps me from getting too emotional about events and saying things in a manner I know I shouldn’t.

So in light of everything that is going on in the world, the looting, the racism (by both sides), and the total lack of respect for other human beings, I find that I just want to pull away, remaining in my own little piece of the world with my family.

You might think I don’t care but you would be wrong, I do care, it’s just that during times like these people are not careful, they seem to lose their common sense, they get too emotionally charged and begin acting like animals. And if they don’t act like animals physically, they do verbally, labeling, calling names, generalizing, and many more, always trying to point the finger but never facing the facts.

How quickly we forget that mankind was made in the image of an Intelligent Being, that we were given the gift of freewill, and in the process of this freewill, we hurt ourselves and others, sometimes intentionally but mostly we don’t mean to do it. If this Intelligent Being can forgive us, why can’t we forgive each other?

Polluting The Present Moment

all credit given to pehdtsckjmba.deviantart.com

What does it mean to pollute something? Do we pollute more than just the water, air, and earth? Can we pollute our own souls?

Pollute is defined as contaminate (water, air, or a place) with harmful or poisonous substances; defile; corrupt. I love to define words, sometimes people can define their words differently so when I define words, I feel as if we are coming from the same understanding.

I bought a shrub from Menards in the fall that was left to die because no one had bought it. When I found it, it was marked down to $5 and all the leaves had either turned yellow or fell off, the rest fell off at my house leaving nothing but a bare branches. That shrub was polluted with neglect, denied the life-giving water it needed to thrive. I brought it home and have been nurturing it and watering it regularly.

My shrub in the present moment.

My shrub in the present moment.

I sit here and wonder what that shrub would look like if it held on to that past injustice it went through before I found it? Would it continue to thrive even when I placed it in a nurturing environment? Probably not,  I think it would continue to pollute itself with darkness that isn’t even real in the present moment, and it would eventually die. Nature doesn’t hold on to past injustice, it only lives in the present moment, thriving when what it needs is placed before it.

I’ve noticed over the past few years a disturbing trend, instead of acknowledging the suffering of all people some want to focus on their own suffering, or the suffering of people just like them. This trend has also shown me that these types of people are very angry and bitter towards people who are not like them, almost blaming these people for the injustice even if they had nothing to do with it.

I have also seen that people who are only focused on their own suffering, judge the suffering of others, acting as if what other people go through isn’t as bad as what they went through. Isn’t this what we would call ego? The ego tells us that our suffering is worse than another persons suffering, even though we have no proof of this at all. There is no difference between being killed on a battlefield because of someone’s ego, or being killed in your bed by your own hand because of someone’s ego, the energy behind it is still the same.

This type of thinking pollutes our souls, making us spread hatred all around us, all you have to do is look at the news and you can see what internal hatred is doing to this world. I challenge you to learn from my shrub, let go of the past and thrive in the present moment no matter what your circumstances are, and just so we are on the same ground here, thriving does not mean rich, money never did and never will bring happiness, thriving means being who you were meant to be in each moment.

What Is Thanksgiving?

Giving thanks

Giving thanks

Thanksgiving is coming soon, what does it mean and why is it overlooked by many people?

Thanksgiving is defined as the expression of gratitude, especially to the Creator, and when the Pilgrims created this holiday in 1621, they had many things to be thankful for. They were thankful to the Native Americans that were tools the Creator used to express His love and compassion for these strangers in this new land.

I won’t go into the dark side of this situation since dwelling on the past injustices only pollutes our present moment, and there are too many people who fall down this path of pain.

I can’t seem to understand why so many people overlook a day of thanksgiving? In this world of excess you would think people would have a lot to be thankful for? Maybe what we have doesn’t really make us happy?

I know that I am thankful for my family, true friends in my life, my home, all of my needs that have been met this year, and my journey of learning and awakening to what life is really about.

Frustration sets in

Math, the final frontier

Math, the final frontier

Today I found out my daughter is behind in math. Normally I would love to help my children grow and learn but this is an area that has always given me problems, ever since I was a child my mind did not comprehend math.

It’s very frustrating to know that I can’t help her, so I am taking the initiative to learn math again, starting over from the age of 38. My mom bought my daughter a book called “Girls Get Curves” by Danica McKellar (yes, it’s Winnie from Wonder Years. I loved watching that show when I was a kid), and it focuses on helping middle school girls learn geometry.

Of course I need to buy all of her other books like “Math Doesn’t Suck”, “Kiss My Math”, and “Hot X: Algebra Exposed”, which will help me to understand math in a simpler way than what I was taught. I have to admit though, in my mind I believed that math was hard, so math became hard because of what I believed about it. Now I must believe the opposite, know that math is easy and that I can understand it.

I know all I need (and my daughter needs) is for that one person to add the missing piece and our minds will understand math, but the hard part is finding that one person who knows just the right way to explain it and expand our minds.

“Everything is easy for those who believe.”

Have you ever noticed how the pupil of our eye looks like the sun?

Not to mention how the iris looks like nebulas?

Life is amazing.
